How to use a USB headset with the Apple iPad

By

As I note over on the Voxeo web site, I recently posted a video showing how you can use a USB headset with the Apple iPad. The video is available on YouTube and you can see it directly here:

WHY might you want to do this? Well, primarily if you want better audio quality when using VoIP on your iPad… and if you are like me and always find Bluetooth headsets sucking up too much battery power, it’s nice to have a wired option.

Next up, figure out what else can be plugged into that USB connector… 😉

Do you see any reason why this wouldn’t work with FaceTime and the new iPad 2?

diddy, No, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work… but having said that I haven’t tried it and Facetime could in fact be “different” from other iOS apps.

    Dan,
Great video. I tried my Andrea headset but it seems that it requires too much power. Any recommendations for low powered headset?

Hi Dan, your ‘How To’ video made me a very happy person. I’m about to participate in a webinar and really want to use my USB headset.
Fortunately, I ordered the camera connection set from Apple when I ordered my iPad so have it handy.
So now, instead of thinking ‘why did I order that connector, looks like I’ll never use it’, I am very glad that I did. And glad thT I found your website.
Thanks again, you saved the day for me!
    Regards, Susie

This may work with skype, but it doesn’t work with MagicJack. 🙁

    G930 works in ipad 3 5.1.1??

Wesley, I have no idea about individual models of headsets. This video I did 2 years ago was simply showing how it could be done.

Andy, I admit that I didn’t even know MagicJack had an iPad app! Unfortunately I don’t know the details of how the USB connection kit works with iOS. I suspect that as you noticed the support of the external headsets may vary from app to app.
