Google Voice Via SIP – Not Dead Yet… (The Saga Continues)

GooglevoiceSo maybe calling into Google Voice via SIP isn’t as dead as I thought it was… multiple people have now left comments to my original posts indicating that they could call into their Google Voice number via SIP. And sure enough… I can do so now, too.

Yet to be seen, of course, is how long this actually continues to work this time. Will it be an actual ongoing service? Or is this just another burst of connectivity that will fade again?

We’ll see, eh?

For me, GVoice via SIP started working again on Tuesday, then again stopped working on Wednesday this week.
    Note:
For those who are still able to call their GVoice numbers via SIP, and have their VoIP device registered via VSP, like I do, I recommend they check their CDR’s. Here is why I say this:
    1. When my phone is placing SIP call via CallCentric I only get continual ring-back tone but no connect, when GVoice isn’t accessible via SIP.
    2. When my phone is placing SIP call via Voip.ms, the call goes through and connects just fine.
However, when I checked my Voip.ms CDR, I see that the call was routed as PSTN call and thus charged toll as normal for PSTN routing.
My theory here is that when Voip.ms can’t route the call as SIP, it fails over to PSTN routing, which works perfectly when you strip off the URI portion of the number.
i.e. If +1704xxxxxxx@sip.voice.google.com call fails to route as SIP, it can still easily be routed as +1704xxxxxxx via PSTN number.
It would be interesting to know how others are getting connected when sip.voice.google.com isn’t working…
